About EmpowerED Consulting Group and our mission
At EmpowerED CG, we’re a team of dedicated educational consultants and advocates helping families across New England navigate the challenges of learning, development, and school placement. We offer personalized consultations for families at any stage of their educational journey — from early concerns about development to complex decisions about evaluations, services, and programs.
We help parents answer important questions such as:

What is EmpowerED Consulting Group?
EmpowerED Consulting Group is a special education advocacy and educational consulting practice. We work with families in a growing number of states, helping parents of children with disabilities understand their rights and navigate IEPs, 504 plans, school transitions, and placement decisions. Our home base is Beverly, Massachusetts, and much of our work is done online.
What makes EmpowerED different from other advocates?
Most educational advocates work alone. We work as a team, so your case gets more than one set of eyes and a wider range of experience, from medically complex profiles to out-of-district placement and mediation. That means harder problems get solved faster, and you are never relying on a single person.
Who founded EmpowerED Consulting Group?
EmpowerED was founded by Angela Gowans, who has worked as a special education advocate, mediator, and family coach since 2005. A parent of children with disabilities herself, Angela has held disability advisory roles including U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders's Disability Advisory Council, and wrote the book Navigating Special Education: A Parent Roadmap.
Where is EmpowerED Consulting Group located?
Our home base is 7 Locust Street, Beverly, MA 01915. Because much of our work is done online, we partner with families in states across the country, not just New England.
